Mount Kenya stands as the highest mountain in Kenya and proudly holds the title of the second tallest mountain in Africa, with its highest peak reaching an impressive altitude of 5,199 meters above sea level. This magnificent mountain is situated approximately 150 kilometers north-northeast of Nairobi, the capital city of Kenya, and is located just 16.5 kilometers south of the equator. Mount Kenya's majestic summit is composed of three significant peaks: Batian, Nelion, and Point Lenana, each offering breathtaking views and adventurous climbing opportunities.

The mountain is adorned with 12 remnant glaciers, all of which are receding at an alarming rate due to climate change. In addition to these glaciers, there are four secondary peaks that majestically rise at the head of U-shaped glacial valleys, creating a stunning landscape. With its rugged, glacier-clad summits juxtaposed against lush, forested middle slopes, Mount Kenya boasts one of the most awe-inspiring natural landscapes in East Africa.

Within this extraordinary terrain, adventurers can find about 20 glacial tarns—small lakes of varying sizes—along with numerous glacial moraine features scattered between altitudes of 3,950 meters and 4,800 meters. The highest peaks of Batian and Nelion stand proud at 5,199 meters and 5,188 meters, respectively, while the third peak, Point Lenana, reaches a height of 4,984 meters.

The stunning scenery and diverse ecological formations surrounding Mount Kenya, which has been designated as a World Heritage Site, are nothing short of breathtaking. Additionally, the area is recognized as a Biosphere Reserve, highlighting its ecological significance and the need for conservation efforts to protect its unique
environment.
